As I travel around the 15th District,
I share in the distress and the frustration that many South Texas families and small business owners express about the sobering and daunting financial challenges we are facing. While Americans are forced to tighten their belts and live within their budgets, this Administration is recklessly borrowing and spending— and consequently increasing unemployment, reducing investment, and choking off innovation. The huge deficit created by the President’s proposed new budget will virtually destroy our children’s and our country’s economic future. People from every corner of our state are rightly alarmed that proposals being pushed in Washington regarding government run health care, energy (so-called cap and trade), increased taxation, and other issues have placed our family budgets, business balance sheets, and our entire economy in peril. Americans and small business owners expect Washington to be on their side - to be rewarded for hard work, saving and investing. Instead, unfortunately, many have lost confidence in a federal government that has gambled our economic future and national security through irresponsible deficit spending and exploding national debt.

Therefore, if you believe that America is the land of the free, but that freedom is under assault by the growth of government; if you believe the United States is a nation that derives its powers from the consent of the governed, but now has grown so powerful that it ignores the voice of its people, then join me. I am challenging one of the most liberal congressmen in the House—one who does not represent the values of our district, or for that matter, our country. The 2010 mid-term elections represent the best opportunity we may ever have to elect a Republican to the House of Representatives from South Texas. I believe I represent that possibility.
